What is causing it is the sun!Specificlly the suns wandering magnetic field causing the earths magnetic field to wander! And this is a IRON CORE planet! So it must have an effect!Iron core slightly out of round due to magnetic fields, fields move an so gos the out of round bit! With the crust adjusting to suit!More to come Much more to come!
Anon its hardly the tone of this blog. You are projecting onto Tex.
Well, as soon as this one hit (interesting the triangle between Peru-Christchurch-Japan) I thought of Tex's and others' theory on this and wondered if this is something new, or simply because the Earth is far more inhabited now, then when these things happened in the past?40,000 yrs ago the same thing could have happened and no one would have noticed, much less commented upon the happening.
Let's talk about mid to long term effects of this quake. http://www.harpercollege.edu/mhealy/geogres/maps/eagif/jpagric.gif Dont think they'll have a good harvest this year with all the sludge and seawater. If Japan has to import more rice this would increase the already high food prices. Could this set of revolutions in asia just as it did in northern africa? Also, Japan has been gearing up towards a more proactive role in the region. Last week they revealed their own new stealth-fighter. With the north of the country in ruins and with a possible tjernobyl event unfolding as we speak Im betting Japan will too busy fixing itself for the next 5 years. This creates an opportunity for China and NK to increase their own influence on the region. This quake will change asia more than the tsunami of 2004.-Rzero
The damaged nuclear power plant just suffered an explosion :|
They just upgraded the magnitude of the quake to 9.0
